THT Online
KATHMANDU: Participants at the fourth International Hydro Power Convention shared their views and ideas on new policies and initiatives for hydro power, social responsibility and environmental management and case studies of projects being implemented in India and Nepal. Uttar Kumar Shrestha, managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority, in his presentation on 'Cross border transmission and marketing of power' said construction of high capacity cross border links, as well as appropriate legal framework, were in progress.Deependra Bahadur Kshetry, governor of Nepal Rastriya Bank, said the central bank's Rs 547 billion capital was not sufficient to support the immense potential of hydropower in Nepal. "However, NRB has classified the loan given to hydro projects with capacity up to 50 KW as deprived sector loans, an easy access loan that commercial banks are not eager to lend. This includes generation, distribution and transmission works," added Kshetry.
