Pledge to ease power crisis

Kantipur Report

NEW DELHI, March 15 - India has pledged to install Dhalkebar-Mujaffarpur electricity grid so as to ease the import of electricity from India.

An agreement to this effect was reached during a two-day joint Indo-Nepal secretarial level meeting on water resources that concluded on Friday.

“The Government of India agreed to install the line following our request for the purpose,” said Shankar Koirala, Secretary of Ministry for Water Resources.

He also hinted the possibility of importing 30 MW electricity from India “very soon”. According to him, Nepal Electricity Authority and its Indian counterpart are engaged in the deal. The meeting also decided to prioritise the construction of “second circuit” at Koshi Embankment and to carry out a study into Mahalisagar Dam.

"Team of technicians were already deployed to the dam site. And now we've agreed to conduct investigation jointly," he said.
