BALKRISHNA BASNET & RAJENDRA MANANDHAR

SINGATI (DOLAKHA), March 17 - The construction of access road to 309-megawatt Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project (UTHP) gathered momentum with an objective to complete the much-hyped power project on time.

The project speeded up the construction work by dividing the assess road from Charikot to Lamabagar into three different sections. Lamabagar, the construction site of the project, is 68 kilometres north from district headquarters Charikot.

A team of Nepal Army (NA) is all set to be involved in the access road construction at the third section after the contractor failed to complete the work timely.

“Army will construct the road construction from Singati to Suri soon,” said Mrigendra Shrestha, head of the project.

Claiming that road construction would be over within six months, he said that NA team had already completed field study for the same.

The UTHP recently cancelled the contract with PR Construction as the latter could not complete the first phase construct the assess road from Singati area within the given timeframe. “The project is to hand over the same contract to NA so that the access road will be constructed on time,” the UTHP source said.

The under construction power project is first of its kind in the country with the investment of internal resources. The estimated cost of the project is about 34 billion rupees.
